Earlier in September, news regarding Colt ceasing production of the AR-15 in order to focus on their government contracts. Understandably, many pro-freedom activists and writers immediately questioned whether the firearms manufacturer’s decision was influenced by the ever-increasing leftist pressure on gun companies and their allies. On September 19th, Colt published a statement responding to their critics, assuring that their decision was based on consumer demand and market over-saturation of the AR-15, making sure to confirm that the decision was not political. The market is over-saturated with AR-15s, which likely contributes to their incredible affordability and high quality. That said, we could not rule out the possibility that political pressure influenced their decision.
Predictably, the anti-freedom activists are celebrating this development as a win for ‘gun control’. Among the happy statists are media sites like Yahoo, The Guardian, NY Times, USA Today, and many others. The ‘AR-15 Salesmen of the Month’, Beto O’Rourke himself tweeted in celebration of Colt’s announcement. The naive anti-freedom leftists seem to believe that the AR-15 market is now doomed. In addition to the roughly 15,000,000 ARs already in civilian hands, many companies will continue to produce and sell AR-15s to civilians, and who knows how many such companies will be created in the future.
A Georgia-based firearms training academy called ‘Odin Defense Academy’ compiled and posted this excellent list of such companies in a recent Facebook post:
In what some gun control advocates are claiming as a major victory, Colt has announced they will no longer manufacture AR-15 rifles, thus reducing the number of so-called assault rifle manufacturers.
These are the ONLY remaining companies who still manufacture and sell AR-15 rifles in the US: Best get one while you can!
