When Hurricane Florence ravaged the southeast, many homeowners had to evacuate their homes. Unfortunately, many pets were left at the mercy of the storm when their owners fled from danger. One North Carolina woman who was in the process of converting her property into an animal shelter decided to take. As reported by USA Today, a good samaritan recovered as many cats and dogs as she could and kept them safe throughout the hurricane. The animal caretaker administered antibiotics and delivered other emergency care as she saw fit to make sure that the animals survived the emergency. And they all did seem to survive.

 

That's a nice story, right?

As reported by USA Today: "On Monday, after Florence passed, Hedges got a call from Wayne County Animal Control regarding the animals.

 

“He basically told me, 'You can voluntarily hand over the animals, or I can go get a warrant,' " Hedges said.

 

She willingly surrendered the animals.

 

"A few days later they called me in for questioning and yesterday they arrested me," Hedges said.

 

The charges included 12 counts of practicing medicine without a veterinary license."
