NH Democrats Love Police Overreach

At least twice so far during the 2019 session, Democrats killed a common sense bill that would have restricted police from abusing their authority. Though many Democrats claim to be the party of civil rights, personal liberties, and privacy from government (though Republicans were actually the party responsible for the civil rights movement), there should no longer be any doubt that Democrats - at least those in New Hampshire - have no interest in protecting the privacy, civil rights, or freedoms of their constituents.

Only a few weeks after the 2019 legislative session began, Democrats used their majority in the House to kill a pro-civil rights bill introduced by six Republican Representatives. The bill sought to correct an antiquated power that Fish & Game police in New Hampshire still possessed. Unlike other types of law enforcement officials, Fish & Game police have historically been able to search the property of individuals without a warrant. The justification seemed to be that they were not able to contact a judge and obtain warrants before cell phones existed, especially when they were far away in the wilderness. In 2019, every adult seems to have a cell phone which is capable of using phone/internet connection to contact anyone on the planet instantly. Police use their phones to get warrants from judges in a matter of minutes over the phone. Fish & Game should be held to the same standard. Simply put, it is authoritarian that police can search through your property without a warrant. Additionally, this power seems to have been put in place before F&G officers expanded their duties and powers to include regular vehicle traffic stops. Though they may claim not to do it often, F&G officers in New Hampshire could seemingly stop any car and search it without a warrant, seemingly. The same Democrats who believe that banning all guns is ‘common sense’ believe that House Bill 282, which would only place the same standard search limitations on F&G police as every other police officer, is not a ‘common sense’ bill.

In addition to claiming to be the party of civil rights (we have now established that Democrats have opposed civil rights in the past and continue to abhor and reject civil rights and freedom in general), Democrats also love pretending to support ‘the children’ and use the protection of minors as justification for so many laws, taxes, and programs. Interestingly, House Democrats killed a Republican bill earlier this month which would have implemented a ‘common sense’ protection for children against police officers. House Bill 545 would have prohibited any police officer from questioning a child at school without a parent or guardian being present. Considering that police officers are trained to manipulate individuals into incriminating themselves (not to mention how inappropriate this interview would be and not to mention the increasingly common violent attacks perpetrated by police against innocent people) this bill should not have had any opposition.

If privacy, civil rights, or personal liberty are important to you, make sure to expel as many Democrats from the legislature as possible when you have the opportunity to do so in 2020.
