Congratulations, Alu!

The news is probably old for our fellow liberty lovers who are likely reading this article, but Liberty Block co-founder Elliot Axelman has succeeded in winning the GOP nomination for New Hampshire House District Merrimack 24 (Hooksett), and in resounding fashion, beating out John Leavitt and David Ross 341 to 115 and 101, respectively. He will face off in the general against Democrat Kathleen Martins in a special election on March 10th to replace the recently deceased Representative Dick Marple, a beloved and passionate defender of freedom.

As a fellow liberty-lover, and long-time Liberty Block editor, co-host, co-author, and friend, it is my honor to extend my sincerest congratulations to our fearless leader! For the few of you who do not know, Elliot is the truest supporter of individual freedom, government accountability, and public safety, and will be bringing these values with him to Concord, should he win in the general. For those who live by the motto, “Live Free or Die”, you won’t be disappointed.

Elliot and I “met” in the summer of 2017 when I was running for office myself in my home town of New Milford, CT. The Liberty Block – still in its infancy – had only a few dozen Facebook followers (we’re over 2,000 now!). I don’t remember who found whom, but our online encounter resulted in a bonding over libertarian values and an overall, general distrust in government, culminating in Elliot offering me an interview on his show. Our technology has grown since the days of calling Elliot on his phone and having him hold it up to his laptop’s built-in microphone, but the values, at their core, have remained the same since those early days, and I was happy to join his volunteer staff even then, having never met him in person. Second Amendment lovers will be happy to hear that the first time we did finally meet in person, our first stop was to the local gun shop, where Elliot introduced me to his friends at the store, and purchased a firearm that came with us as he took me on a tour of the town.

We’ve had our debates over the years both on camera and off, and I’d say we’ve seen our positions both gradually evolve and our foundations firm up around principle. I met his lovely fianceé Kate (who was just his girlfriend at the time) when I took my camera and broadcasting gear on the road to what was their apartment’s living room at the time for a series of shows featuring guests that included gubernatorial candidates and candidates for local office (you can find all of them on The Liberty Block’s video page), and have continued to happily help Elliot with The Liberty Block in all facets, especially as Elliot’s primary copy editor and technology advisor. And, yes, Elliot’s writing has come a long way since those early days of highlighting whole pages for edits!

And this story is by no means about me, as Elliot has been the heart, soul, and driving force of The Liberty Block since day one. He’s kept a constant vigil and spoken out about government accountability, free markets, and, especially the Second Amendment, always taking a firm stance in support of liberty. His knowledge of the inner-workings of the Concord “beltway” is soberingly esoteric, as evidenced by his constantly bringing up every mundane bill, motion, and legislative act to The Liberty Block staff, eventually breaking down and spilling everything out onto an Excel spreadsheet so dense I can’t imagine how he keeps up…and then somehow manages to get his research to pen faster than the entire rest of the staff combined. I seriously wish you all could see what a backlog we have behind the scenes because we just can’t keep up with him. I don’t care how long he’s been in New Hampshire, no one – and I mean no one – could possibly care more about the state and his district than someone who pays attention this closely, and, for that, Elliot should be proud.

It should go without saying – and I think I’m not out-of-turn to be speaking on behalf of the entire team – that Elliot has the full endorsement of The Liberty Block Staff. And if you’re a fellow liberty-lover voting in Hooksett on March 10th, you should be getting behind our fearless leader, too, and vote for Elliot Axelman. Congratulations, bud. Now go win the general!
