Brexit Divorce is Final, Lawmakers Need to Sign the Decree

While driving home yesterday, during the top of the hour news report, the reporter read a story about how the British Parliament had failed to come to terms that facilitated Britain’s scheduled departure from the EU on 29 March 2019. The report ended with the reporter saying that at this point it was uncertain “if the divorce from the EU would even happen at all.”

The nonsense in that one sentence is overwhelming. The divorce was decided on the 23rd of June 2016. The result was 51.9% of Brits decided to leave the EU vs. 48.1% that wanted to stay attached to the EU. In a democratic republic, the politicians need to respect the will of the people, especially when they agreed to respect the result of the election

It is not a matter of IF the divorce will happen – that has been decided. Independence has been chosen. Lawmakers in Parliament need to respect the will of the people. The marriage to the EU is over. The lawmakers need to sign the divorce decree.
